About Us

Biographies Regina is the new name of a group of people that for the past seven years has been dedicated to gathering, preserving and sharing the people history of Regina, and continue so to do.

Formerly a committee of Regina and District Old Timers' Association, Biographies Regina is now (since '06) incorporated as a separate organization. This re-branding better reflects the work of the group and encourages those who share our desires and objectives to become involved.

Since 2001, the project has produced five books - Before the Steel, Trail of '82, Tents to Towers, Women of the Years and Keepers of the Law - which contain over 100 stories of the lives and times of the community and some of its people, plus dozens of photos. A sixth book in the "Pioneers! O Pioneers!" series (about the city's Old Warehouse District) is currently in preparation. Our work and our worth are best demonstrated in the products we produce.

While there has been a fair amount of material written and published over the years about Regina history, personal stories with real detail have not been produced in the way, or to the extent, that this has been accomplished in smaller centres through community history books.

Regina and district residents and former residents are urged to submit their family histories for consideration for publication in future "Pioneers! O Pioneers!" books. Although excellent results to date have been largely accomplished by Biographies Regina volunteers - to the extent of burnout - and by seasonal student employment, it is time to move on to a level involving more professional help. And the work and production must be accelerated.

Its founders foresee Biographies Regina, Inc. - a registered charity - becoming a strong and influential organization, involved in a necessary and worthwhile community endeavour.
